Abstract

Under the influence of modern trends, the Azerbaijani family is undergoing profound changes, the consequences of which are essential both for the family and society.  Aim/Goal. The social problems caused by a decrease in birth rate and the increase in the number of persons refusing marriage and a family are described. In addition to the woman and her family members, the state, social institutions, ideology, and religion should actively participate in this. Religion determined what was due to a woman and what to a man. In secularization, a shared ideology disappeared, which would clearly and unambiguously distribute gender roles. There will be no equality if there are no legal mechanisms to prevent domestic violence and stop discrimination in employment based on gender and age - the inertia of conservatism is still strong enough.  Methodology. The work was carried out in the regions and the urban environment, with numerous interviews with women (16-80 years old) and men (16-80 years old), and as a result of descriptive, analytical research, as well as sociological observation, determined that the role of the mother is vital in maintaining ethnic identity and the role of a married couple in maintaining family traditions. To study the internal environment of the couple, the composition of this environment (relatives, neighbors, friends, colleagues) was studied; frequency of contact with them; the type of assistance received from representatives of the environment (economic, moral, and emotional support, household services, organization and conduct of leisure, exchange of experience). The family is the center of the formation of gender relations, through which ideas about masculine and feminine principles, gender stereotypes, and norms that determine the behavior of men and women in society are transmitted to the next generations. Research question.  One of the tasks facing the study is to identify the marital role of women in Azerbaijani families. In this regard, it is supposed to consider the mother's image in the ethnic identity of Azerbaijanis to explore the process of raising a woman as a future mother: traditions, rites, and rituals, to identify the role of women in wedding ceremonies. With the visible modernization of society, traditional patriarchy forms its basis and is especially noticeable in the regions. In a patriarchal society, rivalry and competition between women originate from relationships in the family from childhood - men and women follow the distribution that has developed in society into "dominant" and "subordinate" social roles and receive benefits using the resources available to them Today, the social mobility of Azerbaijani women has undergone many changes, which has affected the prevailing cultural attitudes and stereotypes - but certain expectations in relations between men and women still exist. Azerbaijani society Today is more open to women's self-affirmation.
